Green Light like a flame in trumpet blos

In Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Germany, children do not get their present on Christmas morning, but on December 6th, which is Saint Nicolas's Feast Day.

The image on the left shows "la Joyeuse Entrée" ("the Joyful Entry" - or " the Happy Arrival" in non-medieval English ;-) de Saint Nicolas à Bruxelles (in Brussels) le 6 décembre 2007.

The image of the right shows the deliverance of three children by Saint Nicholas during a period of famine where children were eaten, according to 4th century legend. This is an oak scuplture of Saint Nicholas with the Three Boys in the Pickling Tub, made in Belgium ca. 1500.

Petit papa Noël" (literally, _little papa Christmas") is one of the most beloved French Christmas Carol, recorded for the first time at the end of War World II in 1946 by one of the most talented French singers of the time - Tino Rossi. And yes, he was Italian! His name means "Tony (Anthony) the Redhead", ou "Toine (Antoine) Le roux"

I am posting here the lyrics for "Petit papa Noël," in French and English. As far as I know, there is no equivalent English version of this Christmas carol.

The translation given here is literal.

C'est la belle nuit de Noël______________________________It's the beautiful night of Christmas

La neige étend son manteau blanc_____________________The snow spreads its white coat

Et les yeux levés vers le ciel____________________________And eyes lift toward the sky

À genoux, les petits enfants___________________________On their knees, the small children

Avant de fermer les paupières_________________________Before closing their eyelids

Font une dernière prière_______________________________Say a last prayer.

Petit papa Noël

Quand tu descendras du ciel
Avec des jouets par milliers
N'oublie pas mon petit soulier.
Mais avant de partir
Il faudra bien te couvrir
Dehors tu vas avoir si froid
C'est un peu à cause de moi.

Little Father Noël (Santa Claus
or Saint Nicolas or Sankt Nickolaus)

When you come down from the sky
With thousands of toys
Don't forget my little shoe.
But before you leave
You should dress well
Outside you are going to be so cold
And it's a little by because of me.

Le marchand de sable est passé
Les enfants vont faire dodo
Et tu vas pouvoir commencer
Avec ta hotte sur le dos
Au son des cloches des églises
Ta distribution de surprises.

The sandman has passed
The children are going to "nitghie-nite" (dodo)
And you will be able to begin,
With your sack on your back,
To the sound of church bells,
Your distribution of surprises.

Refrain
Il me tarde que le jour se lève_
Pour voir si tu m'as apporté_
Tous les beaux joujoux que je vois en rêve_
Et que je t'ai commandés._

Refrain
I can't wait for sunrise_
To see if you brought me_
All the lovely toys that I see in my dreams_
And that I ordered from you._

Refrain
Et quand tu seras sur ton beau nuage_
Viens d'abord sur notre maison
_Je n'ai pas été tous les jours très sage_
Mais j'en demande pardon.

Refrain
And when you are on your beautiful cloud_
Come first to our house_
I wasn't always very good every day
But I ask for forgiveness.
